DESCRIPTION:Judging Panel: \nMusic Ensemble: Rick Murphy: Richard Anthony Murphy (Rick) is a retired instrumental music teacher with 41 years experience. He began his teaching career in Wakulla County\, Florida followed by 31 years in Tennessee schools\, most notably at Nashville McGavock and Columbia Central High Schools. For 7 years\, Murphy was Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Middle Tennessee State University. He finished his career in the Spring of 2021 with 8 years of teaching in Mississippi\, where he was Director of Bands and conductor of the Tupelo Wind Symphony at Tupelo High School. His high school bands have been consistently rated Superior in both marching and concert venues\, won many local\, regional\, and national awards\, performed in national parades\, and appeared in Canada\, Mexico\, and throughout the United States (most notably at the 2017 Presidential Inaugural Parade and at the 1986 Statue of Liberty Rededication Ceremonies). He has conducted concerts at the Tennessee Music Educators Association State Conference on three separate occasions with three different ensembles.  He is a five-time Gold Medal winner at MTSU’s Contest of Champions\, five-time Tennessee State Marching Band Champion\, and a three-time finalist at the Bands of America Grand National Championships.\nMurphy has been published as a research associate for the GIA Publication series Teaching Music through Performance in Band and Teaching Music through Performance in Beginning Band.  He has served on the faculty of Vanderbilt University’s Blair School of Music as a visiting conductor and was the conductor of the Nashville Youth Repertory Orchestra. Additionally\, he served as conductor of the Middle Tennessee Chamber Winds\, a professional wind chamber ensemble\, and co-conductor of the Tennessee Valley Winds\, an adult community band.\nMurphy is a member of many professional wind band organizations and educational associations.  He is an elected member of Phi Beta Mu National Bandmasters Fraternity where he served as President of the Tennessee Eta chapter\, and Ritual Chair of the Mississippi Delta chapter. He has received five Citations of Excellence and seven Certificates of Merit for Marching Excellence from the National Band Association\, was twice named an Outstanding Tennessee Educator by the Governor’s School for the Arts\, is an elected member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Honor Society and was elected into the Middle Tennessee State University Band of Blue Hall of Fame (at the age of 31).  In 2014\, he was elected into the Tennessee Bandmasters Association Hall of Fame. He is a frequent adjudicator at concert and marching events throughout the country.\nMurphy\, an avid tennis player and lover of cruise ships\, European travel\, and Mahler symphonies\, is the proud dad of two adult children (Hailey\, a private speech therapist and Sean\, a healthcare technology recruitment specialist) and granddad to three perfectly splendid grandchildren  (Ruby\, Lily\, and Hank). \nMusic Effect: David Aydelott: David Aydelott is a recently retired band director in Tennessee. Mr. Aydelott taught high school bands in Tennessee at Lexington\, John Overton\, Ravenwood\, Franklin\, and Siegel for 29 years. Additionally\, he was the Director of Fine Arts in the Williamson County Tennessee School District for two years. A recipient of the NBA’s Certificate of Merit and the Citation of Excellence\, Mr. Aydelott is an active clinician and arranger and has served as an adjudicator for DCI and BOA. Music for All named David Aydelott to the “Forty for Forty.” In December 2014\, the John Philip Sousa Foundation named Mr. Aydelott a Laureate of the Bandworld “Legion of Honor.” \nMr. Aydelott has held leadership positions in professional music education associations and served two years as a member of the Education Council for the Frist Art Museum in Nashville\, Tennessee. He and his wife Renee have two children\, Katherine and Meredith. \nVisual Effect: Jonathan Beavers: Jonathan Beavers is a Co-founder of SouthCoast Music & Design\, as well as lead drill writer\, choreographer and overall visual design coordinator for the company. He graduated from Athens State University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Small Business/Entrepreneurship. \nBeavers was a member of Music City Drum Corps in 2011 and a silver medalist with the Bluecoats Drum Corps in 2014\, where he received the Visual Performer of the Year award. He was also a member of the 8-time World Champion Music City Mystique Indoor Drumline from 2012-2015 winning 2 silver medals\, 1 bronze medal and a 4th place finish. Beavers is a designer and teacher for a variety of groups across the southeast. He has worked both as a Visual Caption Head/Staff Member and Drumline Director/Staff Member with a myriad of high school and indoor programs. \nAdditionally\, Beavers has served on visual staff with the Bluecoats Drum Corps\, Music City Drum Corps\, and Music City Mystique. As a seasoned designer\, Beavers has also written and choreographed for many prestigious ensembles including Bluecoats Drum Corps\, Music City Drum Corps\, Momentum Independent Indoor Percussion\, Winfield Independent Indoor Drumline\, Bob Jones High School\, Fred J Page High School\, Sparkman High School and Siegel High School. \nBeavers spends much of his free time as a member of the Tennessee Titans Blue Crew Drumline/MCM Productions\, a for hire drumline that has played events such as the CMA Awards\, CMT Awards\, Dove Awards\, the NFL Draft and alongside acts such as Florida Georgia Line\, Brett Eldridge\, Sugarland\, Little Big Town\, Ariana Grande\, Toby Mac\, and Danny Gokey. He currently lives in Madison\, Alabama and is planning his upcoming wedding with his beautiful fiance Bethany. \nVisual Ensemble: Blair Bomar: Blaine Bomar\, a native of Paris\, Tennessee\, has over 15 years of experience in music education and the marching pageantry arts. He serves as a Program Coordinator\, Visual Designer\, and Educational Consultant for marching bands and indoor units across the Midwest and Southeast. The organizations he collaborates with have achieved significant success in the Bands of America (BOA)\, Winter Guard International (WGI)\, and USBands circuits\, as well as in their local and state competitions. Recently\, these groups have earned titles such as WGI Regional Finalists and BOA Regional Class Champions at several events\, along with various caption-based awards. \nBlaine is a proud member of multiple judging associations across the country\, including the Gulf Coast Judges Association\, East Tennessee Performing Arts Association\, Central States Judges Association\, USBands Judges\, and more. He is a graduate of the Marching Roundtable Judges Academy\, where he had the opportunity to study General Effect and Visual adjudication with some of the top judges and mentors in the nation. He has also had the privilege of serving on championship panels in several states\, including Tennessee\, Kentucky\, Mississippi\, Texas\, Alabama\, Louisiana\, Ohio\, Illinois\, Kansas\, and Missouri. In addition to his work as a designer and judge\, Blaine is a highly sought-after leadership clinician in Tennessee\, Kentucky\, Mississippi\, and Arkansas. He holds annual summer camps aimed at educating student leaders in teaching\, conducting\, score study\, and team building. \nAdditionally\, he has worked as an instructor for the Fred J. Miller Summer Clinics\, where he taught student leaders and drum majors across the United States. Blaine was also featured on the Marching Arts Education podcast\, alongside the late Dr. Joe Allison and Tim Hinton\, discussing the evaluation of drum majors. Currently\, Blaine resides in Memphis\, Tennessee\, with his dog\, Bentley. \nPercussion: Jim Reed: Jim Reed is the owner and operator of JReed Show Designs\, a freelance company specializing in design for the pageantry arts. With decades of experience in music education and marching arts design\, he has become a sought-after arranger\, drill designer\, and show coordinator for bands across the country. A 1998 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin\, Mr. Reed was actively involved in the marching program\, serving as drum captain and field commander. During this time\, he began arranging for drumlines and designing indoor drumline shows\, laying the foundation for his career in design and arranging. He later earned a Master of Music degree with honors from Austin Peay State University in December 2010. \nThrough JReed Show Designs\, Mr. Reed has worked with numerous high school bands in Tennessee\, Texas\, Arizona\, Kentucky\, Pennsylvania\, Mississippi\, South Carolina\, and Virginia. He is also a staff percussion arranger for Arrangers’ Publishing Company\, a national band publishing house based in Nashville\, and has been published by Rowloff Productions. Mr. Reed’s marching arts experience includes performing as a snare drummer with the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps. He is also a founder and charter member of the Music City Legend Drum & Bugle Corps\, where he has served as program coordinator\, drill designer\, percussion arranger\, performer\, and Assistant Executive Director. Before transitioning to full-time show design\, Mr. Reed had a 26-year career as a band director\, teaching in Sumner\, Robertson\, and Rutherford counties\, as well as Goodpasture Christian School. \nOutside of the marching arts\, Mr. Reed lives in Gallatin\, Tennessee\, with his wife Dawn\, a former color guard instructor. They attend Birdwell Chapel Church of Christ in Cottontown\, where he serves as a deacon and song leader. \nColor Guard: Amanda Jones: Amanda Jones is the current director of Eklipse WinterGuard.  By day\, Amanda teaches chemistry and STEM at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro\, Tennessee.  She has been the color guard director at Riverdale since 2011 and reintroduced winter guard to Riverdale in 2014.  Amanda graduated from Western Kentucky University with a double major in chemistry and mathematics and is also ACS certified.  Ms. Jones is also the former color guard director at Austin Peay State University.
